Ballet Kelowna Presents
Acts of Remembrance
Date: Friday, November 10 & Saturday November 11
Show time: 7:30pm
Location: Kelowna Community Theatre, 1375 Water St, Kelowna, BC
L’ Ètiquette is a lively ensemble piece inspired by the dance, music, and manners of the Baroque era. With period costumes, fluttering fans, and elaborately staged scenes, this humorous work promises to be an audience favourite. Originally created for the Banff Festival Ballet in 1996, L’Ètiquette has been described as “an amused and amusing look at social conventions.”
Ballet Kelowna proudly commissions acclaimed Canadian choreographer Wen Wei Wang to create a new work for the Company. As artistic director of Vancouver’s Wen Wei Dance, Mr. Wang’s works have been performed across Canada and at dance festivals around the world. The recipient of many awards, Mr. Wang has also created unique works for Ballet BC, Ballet Jorgen, and Alberta Ballet.
The program will culminate with Acts of Remembrance, a new work by Simone Orlando honouring Canada’s Veterans and those who have served in the wars. With 2017 marking the 100th anniversary of the First World War battles of Vimy Ridge and Passchendaele, this commemorative work remembers the courage and sacrifice displayed by Canadians in these bitter conflicts. For the commissioned score, composer Owen Belton will use letters and diary entries from the battlefront to bring the human experience closer.
