Join Graham Vink, Jessica Türje, Michael Ibsen, and Joel Thomson for an evening of song and chamber music, highlighting works for guitar, voice, and piano from around the globe. From Spain you will hear baroque music by Gaspar Sanz to modern guitar duos by Joaquin Rodrigo, and a setting of popular Spanish folk songs by Manuel De Falla, for guitar and voice. We then move to France and the lush romantic art songs of Henri Duparc, paired with charming Nocturnes for two guitars by Antoine de Lhoyer. Then it’s off to Italy for art songs by Giacomo Puccini. A set of quirky songs for guitar and voice by British Composer Benjamin Britten will be performed, which are based on Chinese folk tales and folk music. Hopping the pond, the program will be rounded out with new compositions for guitar and voice by American composer Dominick Argento, which use letters written by famous composers for the text.
